there can be a variety of roles adapted and played out in the birth room. what I see most often in medical births, is hero and victim, where the OB/midwife dawns the hero’s cape and the birthing woman is the damsel in distress requiring immediate deliverance from the clutches of her inadequate woman body. the hero swoops in, makes all the decisions, manages her physiology and effectively forces her via either coercion or removal of care to follow their commands. the emergency that is birth is by any and all means subjugated and the helpless woman is rescued.

ah, but what a shame this is cultures current accepted role-play, because it can look so different. it can look like:

Queen and Council.

where the birthing woman is the queen; royal, regal, fierce and tender, at the center of the room, full autonomy over her body and experience, all aspects decided by her. her council of wise support surrounds her, offering guidance and advice, IF SOUGHT. she has the first and final say in every element of her birth. her animal body and instincts know how to give birth and when to open up to the good advice of her loyal council.

queen and council births are in alignment with biology, hormonal function, instinctual selves and respecting the dignity and brilliance of the birthing woman.

the choice is yours. your crown is already on your head. 👑
